Warning: tomorrow I’ll return from vacation and will have little time to study Blender.

An eye in Blender
Well, after doing the lesson that teaches how to draw an eye [1], I decided that it was time to make a head for my body.
I just found a very good head modeling based on background images and 2d editing [2].
I learned two more tools: mesh merging (Ctrl J) and mirror modifier.
Unfortunately I did many mistakes and also the style of the head doesn’t match the body’s. Anyway, here it goes:

Texture Types

The image above was rendered following a lesson of carpet texture modeling [1]. The goblet was modeled using another lesson of the same tutorial [2]. The baseboard was made using Bézier curves in 2d and then extruded to 3d.
Procedural textures differ from image textures in the sense that they are generated by mathematical formulas. This link [3] is a good reference. There you can find some sample images generated using these textures and also some common applications of each type.
In one of the links of the reference, they show nice things that can be done with musgraves and voronoi [4]. There you can download a .blend file containing all those textures.
I used the polished stone to texturize a table:

Transparency and Reflections
I’ve done these two great tutorials on mirroring and transparency on Friday:
Yesterday I was too busy remaking the layout of my University Homepage. Unfortunately the server is down right now and I can’t update it yet.
In the new layout I added shadows using css. The images required for the setup were made in inkscape and gimp (I just dicovered I’m terribly bad with them).
I also found more blender material:
- Blender art magazine – Contains some tutorials, news and other blender stuff. I’m wondering if I’ll have time to read all of them
- Allan Brito – A nice blog about computer graphics, updated all the time, but is avaiable in portuguese only
